This was the first comprehensive history of Macon County, Illinois.
It includes township histories with early settlers information, businesses, churches,
134 biographies, 42 pages of illustrations, 33 portraits, and a partial list of patrons.
The extensive military section lists the men who served in units from Macon County in the Black Hawk War, Mexican War and the Civil war.
The six-page list of patrons gives their name and their residence, occupation, place of business, nativity and the year
they settled in the county. Sometimes it gives the name of the deceased wife and when she died. It also lists the wives by their maiden names.
The book is hard bound, 10x13, with 276 pages. An all name index has been added to make the book more useable.
